Robert E. "Bob" Courtney, 66, of Topeka, peacefully passed away in his sleep on Monday, September 17, 2012. He was born October 29, 1945 in Topeka, the son of Harold and Mary Rigby Courtney. He attended Topeka High School and Washburn University. He was also a member of the Army Reserves.
Bob went on to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, and after retiring from there, owned and operated Courtney's Family Restaurant and later was involved in the management of other area businesses. He enjoyed relaxing with friends, gardening, cooking, attending auctions and was an extremely talented artist.
Bob married Carol Decker on December 1, 1967 in Lee's Summit, MO. He is survived by companion, Sue Brothers, son, Blake Courtney of Lawrence, daughter, Devon (Joshua) Luthy of Leander, TX, granddaughter, Annika, uncle, John "Jack" Oppermann, cousin, John "Kevin" Oppermann and a countless number of friends and acquaintances.
Cremation has taken place. A time of remembrance for family and friends will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association, 837 S. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67211.
