Robert D. "Bob" Douglas, 80, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012.
He was born October 10, 1932 in Topeka, the son of Porter R. and Hazel (Farley) Douglas. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1950.
On July 6, 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, Louise May Spencer. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2008.
Robert was employed by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for 31 years, retiring 1994. He also had worked for the Fleming Co and owned a service station in Topeka. He was a member of the Topeka Moose Lodge and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and was known for his pie baking. He was a member of the Goodyear Retirees Group and the Penwell-Gabel Widowers Club.
Survivors include daughters, Jan (Jerry) Neely, Mesa, AZ, Cherie Bauer, Deanna Douglas and Tammy (Geoff) Witte, all of Topeka; a son, Rob (Donna) Douglas, Topeka; 11 grandchildren, Michael and Jeffrey Johnson, Brett Bauer, Danielle Brady, Andrew and Zack Douglas, Alicia Pfannenstiel, Chanda, Austen and Maggie Witte, and Wayne Neely and 11 great-grandchildren, Lauren Coleman, Haley and Breanna Johnson, Madelynn Bauer, Brandon Couch, Cameron, Hunter, and Trenton Pfannenstiel, David and Savannah Neely and Brooke Douglas; and beloved dogs, Cassie, Devil and Bella. He was preceded in death by an infant sister and a sister, Wilma Cunningham and brothers, Raymond, William and Ronald Douglas.
A funeral ceremony will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Interment will follow at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Bob will lie in state after 3 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care of Kansas, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
