Robert "Bob" Lee Reed, 80, of Topeka, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Sunday, October 16, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimers.
He was born November 2, 1941, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Charles and Gertrude (Priest) Reed. He lost his father at two years old and was raised by his mother. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1959. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorable discharged in 1963.
Bob was employed as a Master Controller by KSNT Channel 27 for 34 years and retired in 2001. He started with KSNT when they first went on the air in 1967.
He was a care giver for his mother and other relatives that had Alzheimers.
Bob enjoyed telling jokes and making people smile. He attended the Midland Daycare program during the weekdays and loved telling the nurses a new joke daily. He also enjoyed watching golf, listening to music and watching Barney Fife and the Golden Girls. Bob was an avid Wizard of Oz fan and had many collectible items in his home. He lost his lifelong friend, Fred Bailey, a few years ago, but still would play his favorite songs and tells stories about the time they spent together.
He shared a close relationship with his sister in law, George, and they enjoyed playing Scrabble for over 25 years. Bob had also enjoyed his relationship with niece, Kimberly, who often would bring him shakes from Sonic.
Bob is survived by his sister in-law, Georgiann "George" Reed; three nieces, Kelly Turner, Kimberly Akins and Kerry Alfrey; great nieces and nephews, Toni, Cody, Kristin, Keith, Matthew, Joey and Mason and lifelong friend, Bernice Hejtmanek. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Reed.
A graveside service with military honors will held at 1:00pm on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's honor to Topeka Rescue Mission, Inc. PO Box 8350, Topeka, KS 66608.
