Robert "Bob" T. Kohnlein died Friday, March 1, 2024 at his home in Topeka, Kan.
Born Dec. 31, 1954 in Harrisburg, PA, he graduated from Central Dauphin East High School.
He studied mathematics and science at Slippery Rock College and the Harrisburg Area Community College, then joined the U.S. Navy in January 1980 serving on the USS Downes. He toured the world during his Navy career, serving as a sonar technician, and was honorably discharged in January 1986.
Bob worked for Siemens Transportation Systems, first as a field service technician and then as a field service engineer working on the BNSF Locomotive Project in Alliance, Neb. and Topeka, Kan. He also worked for the Siemens KCSR Locomotive Project in Shreveport, La.
Bob was involved with Alcoholics Anonymous for 40 years, and frequented meetings nearly everywhere he lived.
His family loved him for his oddball humor, and his thoughtful greeting cards - which arrived like clockwork before every holiday and birthday with a sweet, personal note.
He leaves behind two sisters, Kimberley Miller, of Oak Park, Ill., and Nancy Zennie, of Lebanon, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents Georgea and Thomas Robert Kohnlein and by his older brother, John Kohnlein.
