Robert McKee Badenoch, age 80, of Topeka, Kansas, died in his home last Friday, April 15th, 2022. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a quick wit and family by his side.
Robert was known by family and friends as Bob, Dad, Grandpa, and Papa. He is proceeded in death by his mother Miriam McKee, father Edward C. Badenoch, and sister Nancy Higham.
As a young boy, Robert attended schools in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and became an Eagle Scout at the age of 13. He moved to Topeka, KS where he attended Topeka High School.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1961 and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. After active duty he returned to Topeka to attend and eventually graduate from Washburn University. At Washburn he met the love of his life, Karen "Kelly" Badenoch, on a blind date in 1965; they were married December 23, 1966.
He worked for the State of Kansas Department of Revenue for over 30 years and retired as the Bureau Chief for State Appraised Properties. He valued education, hard work, and family above all else. He was proud of his Scottish heritage and the history of the Badenoch name. Robert did everything at 110%! He enjoyed cooking, the theatre, watching a good movie, and spending time with his grandchildren, but would agree that his favorite hobby was whatever interested Kelly at the time, whether that be quilting, puzzling or making meals for her friends.
Robert is survived by his sister, Helen Kanatzar (David); wife, Kelly; and their three children: Brandy Bearse (Jim); Keith Badenoch; and Kathryn White (Marc). He also had seven loving grandchildren: Laura and Emily Bearse; Bretton, Aidan, and Ashlynn Badenoch; Brock and Lyla White.
Robert was loved by all who knew him and had a demanding presence with a kind heart and smile. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be 10:00am Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
