Robert Eugene Archer

July 10, 1947 — August 26, 2022

Robert E. Archer passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 with his family by his side after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; two children, Christy (Aaron) Classi and Ben (Kassy) Archer; four granddaughters, Saylor, Avery, Blake and Gwen and a soon to be born grandson.

Bob was born on July 10,1947 in Atlanta, Georgia to Robert and Mae Archer. After graduating from the Georgia Military Academy, he received a degree in business from Florida Southern College in 1969 and a Master's in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina in 1976. He was drafted and served our country in the Army in Vietnam in 1969.

A certified public accountant, Bob worked as a civilian employee for the U.S. Coast Guard for twenty years and was a Senior Baldrige Examiner. He became a Topeka City Council Member in 2009 in the closest election in Shawnee County history, winning by one vote. In 2013 he became a Shawnee County Commissioner, an office he held until 2019. He was a tireless community leader and public servant who leaves a lasting positive impact on the Topeka and Shawnee County community.

An avid golfer, he achieved his lifelong goal of a Hole in One on June 3, 2022.

To his family, Bob was perpetually kind, caring, faithful, thoughtful, witty and always good for a laugh. He was a rock for those who needed support. A fire for those who needed motivation. A steadying force who made those around him better. He will be missed tremendously.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 10:30am at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel. The family invites anyone who would like to share a memory or story to speak during the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial donation be made to the Shawnee County Parks + Recreation Foundation (Parks For All Foundation) at https://parksforallfoundation.org.
