Rinda H. Coon, 93, Topeka, passed away Fri., Sept. 19, 2008, at her residence.
Rinda was born June 23, 1915, in Alexandria, LA, the daughter of Edd Clyde and Lorinda Sophia (Abbott) Honea.
Mrs. Coon is a graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Jr. College in Wesson, MS and later received her Bachelor of Education degree from Washburn University.
She married the late Virgil Ray Coon in 1941.
Mrs. Coon began her career at Highland Park Central as a 3rd grade teacher, later moving to historic Monroe Elementary where she remained until it closed, retiring from Quinton Heights in 1978.
Rinda was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority at Washburn University; Grace Episcopal Cathedral; Capital City China Painters for many years; and several doll clubs including, Over the Rainbow Doll Club of Lawrence and Cherished Doll Club of Topeka, of which she was a founding member.
Rinda filled her life as an accomplished china painter; doll maker; embroiderer; crotchetier; seamstress and knitter.
Survivors include two daughters: Rinda Ann (Paul) Oldham; Sandra Carolyn (Gary) Ricketts; and grandson, Jason Paul (Laura) Oldham.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Keith David Coon (Marine Recon 1968) and her only sister, Alice Dunnam.
A memorial service for Rinda will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wed., Sept. 24, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service at 10:00 a.m.
Private interment will be held at Topeka Cemetery.
