Richard C. "RC" Tarter, 93, Topeka, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at a local care center.
RC was born December 15, 1923 in Topeka, the son of Richard S. and Nellie E. (Myers) Tarter. He attended Washburn Rural schools.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Northern Solomon Islands. His awards included the World War II Victor Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal.
He volunteered at the V.A. Hospital for over 20 years, accumulating over 1000 hours of volunteer service. He was instrumental in making and donating wooden toys for the Toys for Tots program at the V.A. Hospital. He was a master woodworker, willing to share his skills with anyone. He and his sister, Eloise, operated a business out of their home called Tarter Marble Boards and Crafts.
He was employed as a Pressman with Adams Business Forms for over 40 years.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Emmlie and Eloise.
Inurnment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and no services are planned.
