Richard T. Whisler, 84, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2008.
He was born June 28, 1924 in America City, Kansas, the son of John A. and Mabel (Breed) Whisler. He graduated from Havensville High School. He served in the Merchant Marines during WW II.
Mr. Whisler was employed by Morrell Packing Plant, Conroy Construction, Victory Sand, retiring from Goodyear Tire and Rubber. He was a member of the University United Methodist Church, and United Rubber Workers Union Local #307.
Richard married Esther E. Hamilton on July 21, 1948 in Topeka. He was preceded in death by Esther on August 27, 2000 and son, Bruce Whisler. Survivors include his daughter, Linda Reece (Bob), Topeka; two sons, Scott Whisler (Janine), Irvine, CA, and Kent Whisler, Topeka; his brother, Veryl Whisler (Judy), Topeka; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the University United Methodist Church, Topeka. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, Topeka. Mr. Whisler will lie in state after 3 p.m. Friday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
