Richard Sterling, "Dickie", 80, Topeka, died Thursday, May 13, 2004 at his daughter's home.
He was born August 2, 1923 in Blackwell, Oklahoma the son of E.D. and Annie L. Sterling.
Dickie was a carpenter by trade and a member of the United Carpenters Workers of America AFLCIO #307. He worked for Kansas Sand and Gravel for five years, and was a member of the Local International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
Dickie's love for music was a legacy he left to his family.
Survivors include four children, sons , Mike Sterling and his wife Linda, Berryton; Danny Sterling and his wife Cheryl, Tecumseh; daughters, Sandy Calderwood and her husband Dewey, Topeka; Tonya Jarrett and her husband Tony, Topeka; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and his sister Martha Ann Cox and her husband Brooks, Tuttle, Oklahoma.
Mr. Sterling will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Saturday and the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday , May 17, 2004 at the Rochester Cemetery, 1200 N.W. Menninger Road.
