Richard "Dick" Stanley Mossman, 90, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016. He was born April 1, 1925 in El Dorado, KS, the son of William and Ethel (Root) Mossman.
Dick graduated from Alma High School in 1943 and served three years in the Navy. He attended Kansas State University where he received a BA and an MA in Education. Dick taught and coached for Topeka USD 501 for 37 years before retiring in 1990. He previously taught in Florence and Junction City.
Dick loved sports. He was a Senior Olympian and long- time bowler. He was a member of the Kansas Coach's Association. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and served variously as church moderator, deacon and Sunday School Teacher.
Dick married E. Carolyn Lightbody on August 20, 1949 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Robert of Tucson, AZ and Rick of Rangely, CO, two grandsons, Thomas and Jackson and his sister, Fern Wagstaff of Topeka.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Dick will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 -7:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
