Richard L. Myers, 76, died Monday, Feb. 22nd at a local nursing home.
He was born Nov. 5, 1933 in Ottumwa, IA, the son of Esther Leona Boatman and Elmore E. Myers. He spent his early life in Bloomfield, IA. After graduation from high school, Richard joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War.
He held several positions with various companies before joining the Union Pacific Railroad. He retired there as a conductor in 1995 after 35 years of service. He was a life member of American Legion Capitol Post No. 1 and VFW Post No. 1650.
Richard married Marilyn Mischke on Dec. 20, 1955. She preceded him in death on May 9, 1995. He married Lila F. Lander on Apr. 20, 1996. She survived at the home. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Kyle Hitchcock.
Survivors include a son, Michael (Donna) Myers, Lawrence; four daughters, Lynette (Craig) Ebersole, Julie (Kale) Carpenter, Lori Myers, and Diana (Michael) Hitchcock of Topeka; two stepsons, Steve (Juk) Evans and Warren Evans of Topeka; and a stepdaughter Debra (Robert) Edwards of Towanda. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandsons, several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 on Thurs. Feb. 25 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Foster Cemetery. Richard will lie in state after 3:00 on Wed., with the family receiving friends from 5:30-7:30.
