Richard D. "Dick" Lowrey, Sr., age 72, passed away on February 23rd, 2018 at a local nursing home after a long illness.
He was born on June 9, 1945 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of the late Raymond H. Lowrey and Marjorie Grace Cearlock.
Richard attended Highland Park High School and later joined the Navy in 1964. He was active duty on the USS Ranger as a communications specialist and received a Vietnam Service Medal.
Mr. Lowrey married Carol Lowrey in August 1967 and began working for Smiley Plumbing. He later trained to become a Journeyman Pipefitter Plumber and worked for Piping Contractors until he retired. He was a member of the Local Union 441 Plumbers & Pipefitters and had over 40 years of service. He was an avid antique collector, loved gardening, going to auctions and spending time with his family.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Judy Knox, his brother Dal Lowrey and his wife Carol Lowrey.
He is survived by his sons, Marc Lowrey and his wife Bobbie and Richard Lowrey, Jr., his daughter, Mary Berger and her husband Jerry, his brothers Larry "Fuzz" Lowrey and Ronnie Lowrey, his grandsons Brandon Hennessee and his wife Jarren and Caleb Lowrey, and a great granddaughter Tayghen Hennessee.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 2nd, 2018 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th, Topeka, Kansas. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral services. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in the Whispering Tower section where he will be forever joined with his loving wife, Carol.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City, 5960 Dearborn St. Mission, Kansas on behalf of his grandson Caleb Lowrey.
