Richard L. Howerton, 75, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014. He was born August 5, 1938 in Quinter, KS, the son of Marion and Goldie Hayes Howerton.
Richard had resided in Topeka since 1966. He was employed by the Shawnee County Landfill for many years prior to retiring.
Richard married Florence Hermann in June, 2009. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his children, Larry, MaryLou, Gloria, Sherry, Dwayne and Michelle, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his three brothers, Marion, Eddie, Bill and three sisters, Inita, Irene and Violet.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Graveside committal services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Milford Cemetery, Milford, KS. Richard will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St., Topeka, KS 66604 or to the American Diabetes Association, 837 S. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67211.
