Richard Hooker, born on February 24, 1939, in Bakersfield, California, left this world on December 12, 2024, in Topeka, Kansas, but his legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He was a man of many talents and an unwavering source of kindness and support to those around him.
For many years, Richard dedicated his working life to the Great Western Sugar Factory in Johnstown, Colorado, before spending over two decades at Kennedy Chevrolet in Windsor, Colorado. His work ethic was matched only by his devotion to his family. In addition to these careers, he proudly served as a farmhand for the Detterers in Windsor, Colorado, where he cultivated not only the land but also cherished relationships with those he worked alongside.
To know Richard was to understand the profound warmth and kindness he exuded. He was a wonderful conversationalist, always interested in the lives and stories of others, and a good husband and father. His family will forever treasure the countless memories of laughter and support that he brought into their lives. Richard's love extended beyond his family; he shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Charlie, who was often seen by his side, a loyal companion reflecting Richard's own steadfast nature.
In retirement, Richard found joy in cutting lawns for the residents of Overbrook, a testament to his willingness to lend a hand and bring a smile to others. Every summer, he looked forward to attending Youth United Camp, where he fostered connections with younger generations. Richard also had a passion for woodworking, creating pieces that would become cherished treasures for family and friends alike.
Surviving Richard are his loving wife, Mary Hooker; their daughter, Ruth (Donovan) Thornton; and son, David (Michelle) Hooker. His memory will also live on in the hearts of his sisters, Jan Johnson, Lyndia Lemphur, Barb Cox, Ruby Wyatt, Robin Blair, and Jane Arnold, as well as his brother, Lil' Richard Hooker.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Bealuh Frank; father, Shirley Hooker; brothers, Raymond and Johnny Hooker; and sisters, Janith Hooker, Jeanie Hooker, Lena Murphy, and Edna Denton. Their love and memories of Richard comfort those left behind as they navigate the loss of a truly irreplaceable soul.
As we reflect on Richard Hooker’s life, we are reminded of the quiet strength, kindness, and dedication he brought into this world. His spirit will continue to inspire those he touched, guiding us all to live with compassion and love, just as he did.
