Richard Virgil "RV" Fortner Jr., 83 of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Colmery-ONeil Veterans Medical Center. He was born on April 10, 1929 in Arkansas City, Kansas to Richard Virgil, Sr. and Emma Jane (Logan) Fortner.
RV graduated from Coffeyville Junior College where he received an associate degree in Business Administration. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War where he was honorable discharged with rank of Corporal. On June 10, 1956 he married Nancy G. McKay. He was employed with Bynum's Clothing Store in Coffeyville as well as JC Penney and Palace Clothing Co both in Topeka. RV retired from Ray Beers Clothing after 20 years of faithful employment.
RV is survived by his children, Emily (David) Miller, Silver Lake; Phillip (Beth) Fortner, Glendale, AZ and David (Irene) Fortner, Peoria, AZ; one sister, Margie Marang, Coffeyville, KS; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on June 5, 1996 and a sister, Betty Provorse.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, September 28 at Brookwood Covenant Church. Burial will follow with military honors in the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
