Richard "Dick" Brock, 71, of Topeka, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, November 7, 2004.
He was born June 23, 1933 in Blue Mound, Kansas the son of Leonard and Evelyn Mann Brock. He was a 1951 graduate of Blue Mound High School and received his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Washburn University in 1961.
Dick served in the United States Army where he received the soldier of the month award in Skokie, Illinois.
Dick served 35 years with the Kansas Department of Insurance. He started as a policy examiner and in 1972 was named as Administrative Assistant to the Insurance Commissioner. He received numerous honors and awards during his career including the Robert E. Dineen Award given for outstanding contributions to state insurance regulation. He retired in 1994.
He was a long time member of Countryside United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of numerous committees.
He married Shirley Simpson December 30, 1956 at Blue Mound, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Mike Brock and wife Rhonda, Sulphur Springs, TX, Brent Brock and wife Elizabeth, Bozeman, MT, Kyle Brock and wife Vonda, Waukee, IA, one brother, Don Brock, Topeka, KS, and four grandchildren Mandi, Maegan, Victoria, and Justus Brock. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother L. M. Brock.
Mr. Brock will lie in state after 12:00 noon Wednesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday November 11, 2004 at Countryside United Methodist Church. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Blue Mound, Kansas.
