Rex Stewart Crumley, 67, of Leavenworth, KS, passed away August 9, 2023, at St. Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was born October 11, 1955 in Staunton, Virginia.
Rex will be remembered as a wonderful brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed his profession as a framing carpenter, building homes in Kansas, Colorado and West Virginia. Rex delighted in spending time with good friends and family, where he would often be found sharing a long and very detailed, very interesting story. He loved good laughs, and was part of a raucous, albeit fun-loving and joyful "breakfast eating gang" who could be heard by all those diners around them. Rex felt most at home living in the Colorado mountains, enjoying the clean mountain air, glorious views and always present wildlife. A favorite pastime was driving into Rocky Mountain National Park (a quick drive from his residence in Estes Park), for autumn elk bugling, winter's snowy peaks, or spring's raging rivers. Rex was an avid guitar player throughout his life, playing in bands in his younger years, and always ready to play at family gatherings. He made sure his nephews and niece had guitars to play and reveled in their musical abilities. Rex loved dogs and had several in his lifetime, beginning in elementary school where he would bring home a "lost dog" to adopt. Lastly, and most importantly, Rex loved Jesus Christ. Regardless of the path he was on at the time, he would share the Word of the Lord with all those around him.
Rex is survived by his Sister, Annelise (Rusty) Doty, his Nephews, Jordan (Sierra) Doty, Austin (Sidney) Doty and Niece, Taryn (Ben) Gervais and their two daughters and dear friends who were also his family, Charlie Thompson, Megan (George) Van Hoozer and their three sons.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Gerald Crumley, Mother, Paula Crumley, and Brother, Jeff Crumley.
A Celebration of Rex's Life will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023, 6:00 p.m. at Shawnee Lake Shelter House #6, 3521 SE East Edge Rd., Topeka, KS 66605. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Rocky Mountain Church, 451 Promontory Drive, Estes Park, CO 80517.
