Reverend Boyd Bonebrake

Reverend Boyd E. Bonebrake, 79, of Topeka, passed away, Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at Brewster Health Center.

Boyd Everett Bonebrake was born to Arthur Harold and Laura Elice Grau Bonebrake on March 4, 1928 in Newell, Iowa. Boyd's twin sister, Buena Alice, died following their birth and is buried in Buena Vista County in the Grau family cemetery plot. The family then moved to Diagonal, Iowa Arthur Bonebrake's home town.
Boyd met Mary Ann Flickinger at Omaha's Grace Bible Institute in the autumn of 1946. They fell in love and in June of 1948 were united in marriage in Mary Ann's home church, Pretty Prairie Mennonite Church. To this union were born Stephen, Bruce, Brent and Marcia.
Boyd earned degrees from Grace Bible Institute, Bethel College in Newton, Kansas, and Phillips Graduate Seminary in Enid, Oklahoma. He served churches in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Iowa with Mary Ann always at his side making the home, working in the churches, and keeping both running smoothly. These two are the best of friends.
Boyd retired from pastoral work at the age of seventy. The Hiawatha and Fairview parishes honored him with the title, "Pastor Emeritus".
Reverend Boyd Bonebrake was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Arden Bonebrake and his parents, Arthur and Laura. Surviving Reverend Bonebrake are Mary Ann of the home and siblings, Cullen, Alpha Ann and Caryl Jean. Surviving children are Steve and Marilyn of Lawrence, Bruce and Carol of Perry Ks, Brent of Topeka and Marcia and Donald Hart of St. Joseph, Mo, 7 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
Reverend Bonebrake will lie in state and the family will greet friends from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon Monday at the Central Congregational Church followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Reverend Bonebrakes name be sent in care of the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel for a memorial to be designated at a later date.
