Thomas Richard (Dick) Hutcheson, 98, passed away March 7, 2015, at Stormont Vail Hospital, with family present, following a short illness.
Mr. Hutcheson was born August 21, 1916, in rural Morning Sun, Iowa, to Walter and Jessie (Turnbull) Hutcheson. He attended grade school in Morning Sun and high school in Mediapolis, Iowa. After high school, he attended Burlington Iowa Junior College. He completed his college degree while working his way through college at Kansas State College in Pittsburg, Kansas in 1940.
Mr. Hutcheson was called into the ministry and graduated from the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1943. Following seminary, he pastored Reformed Presbyterian congregations in Barnet, Vermont; Almonte, Ontario; Rose Point, Pennsylvania; and Superior, Nebraska. During these times he held various committee positions with the denomination.
In 1962, Mr. Hutcheson became employed as a social worker for the State of Kansas, working in Holton and then Topeka. He retired from that work in 1981.
Mr. Hutcheson married Eleanor McLam of East Ryegate, Vermont on June 27, 1944. They had three sons. She preceded him in death in 1990. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Maurice and two sisters, Laura Hutcheson and Alice Gieselmann.
He is survived by his sons, Martin, Topeka; Harvey, Ophelia, Virginia, and Dean (Carole), Olathe; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, including 3 sets of twins.
You may join us in our celebration of life on Thursday, March 12, at the Topeka Reformed Presbyterian Church, 33rd and Auburn Road with visitation at 9:00 am, memorial service at 10:00 am, followed by burial at Mount Hope Cemetery.
