Topeka

Renita G. Lewis, a beloved teacher and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on November 14 2024, in Topeka, Kansas. Born on July 21, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she was a light to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Renita dedicated over 40 years of her life to the noble profession of teaching, inspiring countless students along the way, and shaping futures with her passion for education.

Renita pursued her education at O'Gorman High School and achieved her degree from Kansas State University. Her commitment to fostering a love for learning extended beyond the classroom, as she embraced her students with warmth and a genuine belief in their potential. She was not just an educator; she was a mentor and a guiding hand for so many.

Outside the classroom, Renita was a woman of diverse interests. She had a special fondness for Classic VW Beetles and adored the music of the band Journey, often found humming their timeless melodies. Renita also found joy in the simple pleasures of life—knitting lovingly crafted pieces, diving into the pages of books that transported her to different worlds, and creating beautiful pottery works in her own kiln. These hobbies enriched her life and gave her the chance to express her artistic spirit.

Renita is survived by her loving husband, Kent Lewis, her son Aaron and his wife Traci Lewis, and her son Andrew and his wife Lauren, who will forever cherish the memories they created together. Her grandchildren, Hana, Lila, and Griffin, brightened her days, and she relished every moment spent nurturing their minds and hearts. They will carry forward her legacy of love, kindness, and curiosity.

She is also survived by her dear sister, Mary Robinson, and brother-in-law Don, who shared memories filled with laughter and sisterly bonds that will be missed greatly.

Renita was preceded in death by her loving parents, Earl and Loraine (Brenny) Weinand, who raised her with values of compassion and grace, and her two brothers, William and Paul Weinand, who left an indelible mark on her heart and spirit.

Her passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew her, but the lessons she taught and the love she shared will continue to resonate in the hearts of many. Renita G. Lewis’s legacy of kindness, creativity, and dedication to her family and students will forever be cherished. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
