Relma Maxine Houston, 80, of Portland, OR., passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2005.
She was born October 30, 1924 in Frankfort, KS., the daughter of James P. and Susan B. Tudor Houston.
Miss Houston graduated from Washburn Rural High School and attended Prairie Bible Institute in Canada and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in nursing. She worked as a nurse at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
She obtained her Master's in Nursing Education from the University of Washington, Washington State and moved to Portland, OR in the late 1960's. Miss Houston later did some doctoral level work at Margaret Hague Hospital in Jersey City, NJ. She taught nursing at the University of Oregon's School of Nursing in Portland. She also worked for Kaiser Hospital in the Maternal nursing unit in Portland.
Miss Houston enjoyed traveling and made trips to Japan, Great Britian and Canada.
Survivors include two sisters, Thelma Butner, Apple Valley, CA and Lola Mullins, Cassville, MO. A brother, Melvin Houston and siter, Susie Schuette preceded her in death.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at Mount Hope Cemetery. Miss Houston will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 29, 2005.
