Regina C. Rooney passed away Friday night, October 14, 2011 at Lexington Park Nursing Facility. She celebrated her 102nd birthday with her family on August 20, 2011.
Regina Jean (Eagan) Rooney was born on August 21, 1909 in McFarland, Kansas. She moved with her parents and family to Topeka in 1931 where she attended Strickler's Business College. She worked many years as a secretary for the State of Kansas Department of Revenue, retiring in 1981.
Mrs. Rooney and her husband, John, lived and farmed in Richland, Kansas from 1947 until her retirement in 2000. She taught sewing as a 4-H leader, she was the secretary of the Richland School Board, and a member of the St. Matthew Altar Society.
Her husband, John Rooney preceded her in death in July 1980. Her parents, two brothers and four sisters also preceded her in death.
She is survived by four children: twin sons, Pat Rooney, Goddard, KS and Mike Rooney, Topeka, KS and two daughters, Mary Rooney, Lawrence, KS and Kathleen Rooney, Arlington, VA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
