Raymond J. Shull


Age 96 passed away December 20, 2003 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. He was born November 23, 1907 near Colby, KS in Thomas County, in a sod house that was built by his father, the son of John H and Zora Noell Shull. He later moved with his parents to a farm near Oskaloosa and graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1925. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad as a clerk in the freight auditor's office. Mr. Shull worked 12 years within the Department while attending Washburn College, graduating in
1937. Two years later he was employed by the General Adjustment Bureau (GAB) and worked in the 1960's during the Detroit and Washing D.C. riots, as well as many Hail and Hurricane Areas, retiring in 1973 after thirty four years of service. After retirement he worked for the Thomas D. Murphy and Company Specialty Advertising Sales Business. He also worked part time in the state Legislative Sessions in the Senate Chamber as Assistant Sgt. at Arms.

Mr. Shull was a World War II Army Veteran serving as an officer in the India and China theatres with the CID. He was active member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club, First Presbyterian Church and a 50 year member of Kappa Sigma social fraternity and Orient Masonic Lodge # 51.AF & AM., Washburn Alumni Assoc.

Mr. Shull was married to Winnie W. Brown in 1941 in Topeka. She preceded him in death in 1981. He was also preceded in deaht by a brother Ivan of Lawrence, KS in 1984, and his sister Mrs. Gladys Waterhouse of Philadelphia in 2003. Surviving are two daughters, Sondra Shull, Cleveland, OH and Marcia Stevenson, Beaverton, OR.

Cremation is planned. A memorial Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 26, 2003 at Trent Plaza at Aldersgate Village. Private inurnment will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Oskaloosa, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, 817 SW Harrison, Topeka, KS 66612, or to The Good Samaritan Fund, Aldersgate Village, 7220 SW Asbury Drive, Topeka, KS 66614. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
