Raymond Hirte Culp, 92, of Topeka, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 14, 2014.
He was born on April 17, 1921 in Chicago, IL and was the son of Harry A. and Ella H. Culp. Mr. Culp served his country in the Army for four years, was a graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, IL and received a Master's degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI. He subsequently was a public school teacher for 25 years, teaching music, math, and science at the Jr. High, High School, and college levels. He then became a building contractor.
He married Avis J. (Harshman) Culp (deceased) on June 16, 1951 in Wisconsin, and together they raised five sons, all surviving, including Boyd H. (Linda) Culp, Charles H. (Jeannie) Culp, David H. (Gail) Culp, Reginald R. (Tracy) Culp, and Steven H. (Analicia) Culp; other survivors include seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a sister Ethel (Larry) Bonaldi-Rausch.
He was a gentle man, who was always at peace with himself and with others. He was an extremely devoted husband and father and his love, caring, compassion, and helpfulness permeated all that he did. He loved music and served his Lord as the choir director at church for many, many years. He was also heavily involved in Boy Scouts and was a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, received the Founder's Award, and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1001 SW Buchanan St., Topeka, KS 66604. Inurnment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church.
