Background: He was a World War II veteran. He also served in Korea. He served 22 years before retirement from the military. He was awarded two bronze stars during WWII, one bronze star during the Korean conflict, and two purple hearts. He served in the 137th infantry regiment of the 35th infantry during WWII. He earned the European campaign battle medal with five campaign stars including Northern France, Rhineland, Normandy, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He received the combat infantry badge. He served with the 1st Battallion Wolfhounds 25th infantry division in Korea. He was stationed in Germany after Korea until 1955. After returning to the United States, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and retired from active duty in 1962. He worked for the Kansas Turnpike authority as a toll collector for many years. Member of the VFW Post # 6790, American Legion Post #1, He was the past president of the 35th Division Association. He was a member of AF & AM Mayetta Lodge #393.
