Randy Kern

Randy Kern, 68, of Berryton, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2023.

He was born April 1, 1955, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Donald and Wilma (Baldwin) Kern. He graduated from Seaman High School.

He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for six years where he was a Machine Gunner and a Sniper. He obtained the Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge and a Pistol Marksman Badge.

Randy continued serving his country by becoming a Police Officer with the University of Kansas. There he worked for 30 years, retiring as Sergeant and a shooting instructor.

His family, horses, dogs and friends meant the world to him. His horse Tux and his dogs Bear and Taz were his best friends. He enjoyed riding horses and training dogs in his spare time. After he was out of the Marines, Randy would do endurance races with his brother and his Arabian Horses.

You could also find Randy out in his veggie garden in which he made some pretty amazing salsa, he also enjoyed fishing, and a nice cigar and good scotch.

Randy married Robbin Loomas, they later divorced. He later married Tracy McCann on November 22, 1993 in Oskaloosa, KS, she survives.

Other survivors include his daughters, Donnie (Austin) Winter, Jessica Kern, Michelle (Troy) Scott, and Seana Overby; siblings, Brian (Bonnie) Kern, Angie (Mike) Bisnett, and Terry Kern; grandchildren, Charlie Winter, Tyler Morris, Kendall Morris, Rylee Wamsher, Casen Wamsher, Keyshawn Kearse, Keyosha Kearse, and Keyante Kearse; three great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren on the way and his nieces, Amanda, Casey, and Shelby. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Kern

Cremation is planned. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Penwell-Gabel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.

Graveside service with military honors will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services PO Box 22324 New York, NY 10087.
