Ralph Cohen, 89, of Topeka, passed away Saturday April 23 at a Topeka hospital.
He was born June 14, 1915 in Topeka, the son of David and Rebecca Cohen.
He graduated from Topeka High School. After high school, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in England during WWII. He then worked in the family business, the Kaw Valley Produce Co. During this time, he and his brother opened the first Ramada Inn Hotel in Topeka. He and his brother owned and operated many different business ventures in the Topeka area and were instrumental in bringing many businesses to the state.
He married Helen Bowman on July 27, 1945 in Valley Falls, KS. She preceded him in death on December 19, 1995.
Survivors include his companion, Margaret Hatley and his best friend, Jose Noriega, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr Cohen will lie in state after 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 26 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 7-8:00 pm that evening. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, April 27 at Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery.
