Raleigh H. Fahrendorff, 82, of Topeka, passed away Friday, February 3, 2012 at Atria Hearthstone.
He was born March 23, 1929 in Milltown, WI, the son of Harold and Mabel (Johnson) Fahrendorff.
He was a graduate of Goodrich High School, Fond du Lac, WI. He served in the U.S. Army 25th Infantry Division in Japan during WW II.
He was employed by Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of Highland Heights Christian Church, American Legion Capital Post No. 1, Philip Billard, Post No 1650 of V.F.W. and Fraternal Order of the Eagles all of Topeka.
Raleigh married Alice Dickinson on October 14, 1950 at Riverdale, IL. She preceded him in death in May 27, 1996. Survivors include a sister, Gerda Strupp, Fond du Lac, WI; a sister-in-law, Marge Dickinson, Hiawatha, KS; brother-in-laws, Bob Stirton, Topeka; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin sister, Rosalie Blackwell, Sacramento, CA; and three brother-in-laws, Oliver Dickinson, Hiawatha, Jerry Strupp, Fond du Lac, WI and Tom Blackwell, Sacramento, CA.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors by Philip Billard Post 1650 of the V.F. W. will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Raleigh will lie in state from 3-9 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
