Joseph Kohn, 85, formerly of Topeka and Las Vegas, NV, died on Monday, January 6, 2014.
Joseph was born in Czechoslovakia to Herman and Hannah Kohn. He escaped Nazi imprisonment and created a life in the United States. Following his decorated military service in Korea he was the only cantor in the state of Nevada and a Rabbi in Las Vegas. Among many other civic activities, he was appointed to the Nevada Board of Regents.
He will be missed by his three daughters- Lorie (Roy) Levun Deborah Kohen, and Susan Kohn Eyman, and five grandchildren, Hillary Levun, Zoe Ley, Marc Levun, Adrianne Eyman, and Ethan Eyman.
A funeral ceremony will be at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, January 9 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
