Preston N. "Bart" Barton II, 65, Topeka, passed away Friday, February 1, 2008. He was born on July 21, 1942 in Hartford, CT, the son of Preston and Barbara (Jordan) Barton. He attended Wilmington College in Ohio, and graduated from Temple University with a BS in Social Welfare. Bart earned an MSW at the University of Pennsylvania, then joined the US Army Medical Corps at Ft. Riley where he served as a Captain. He then went on to complete a Post Master's Third Year Certificate in Clinical Social Work from the Menninger Foundation. Bart retired from the State of Kansas, and worked part-time for Catholic Charities as a counselor. Bart was the first Ombudsman for Corrections for the State of Kansas.

Bart married Jean Lewis on June 23, 1967. She survives. Other family members include a brother: Bill Barton and his wife, Chris; and a nephew, Andrew, all of Indianapolis.

An Open House will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 3 - 5 pm at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, where Bart's family and friends will celebrate a life well lived. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Hospice, 220 SW Frazier, Topeka, 66606; Critter Care, PO Box 67341, Topeka, 66667-0341; or NE Kansas Parkinson's Association, PO Box 251, Topeka, 66601.
