Polly P. Collins

July 9, 1930 — June 8, 2023

Polly Pratt Collins left this earthly world on June 8, 2023. Polly was born on July 9, 1930 to Beulah Helstrom Pratt and Charles Pratt in Pratt, Kansas. Being Polly Pratt from Pratt was her catch phrase for many years.

After high school graduation, Polly attended Kansas State Agricultural College (now Kansas State University), where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Polly earned a bachelor's degree in Technical Journalism. While at KSAC, she met Jack Collins and they married on August 15, 1953. Into this marriage were born three children: Charles, Craig and Sue Ann.

Polly enjoyed the written word and was often found reading newspapers. She worked for her dad on the Pratt Tribune and for the Junction City Daily Union.

Full of curiosity, Polly dived into various arts and crafts over the years including china painting, stained glass and antique trunk refinishing. She also enjoyed collecting dolls, especially foreign folk dolls, expanding the collection begun by her grandmother Frankie Helstrom.

After Jack's retirement, Polly and Jack enjoyed traveling and particularly relished winters in "Paradise" (Paradise RV Park) in Phoenix.

Polly was a member of the Cherished Doll Club, Chapter HW of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and the First Presbyterian Church of Topeka.

Polly was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her son Craig, and her parents Beulah and Charles Pratt.

She is survived by children Charles Collins (Sheree) and Sue Ann Funk (Steve); daughter-in-law Celia Collins; grandchildren Brandon Collins (Allee), Erin Funk (Taylor Mahlandt), and Tracey Funk (Cody Johnston); and great-granddaughter Kinslee Collins.

Funeral services for Polly will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church in Topeka. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.
