Phyllis Brooks Taylor, 95, died Thursday December 1, 2016 at Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center, Kansas.
Phyllis was born September 16, 1921 in her farm home near Newkirk, Oklahoma. Her parents were Harry and Ethel Brooks. While attending grade school and high school, she was active in the music program, both instrumental and vocal, and began playing her violin in the high school orchestra when she was in 7th grade. She began singing in church choirs when she was 13 and continued to sing in choirs until she was 87 years old.
Upon graduation from high school she moved to Wichita, Kansas where she went to Business College and worked until she moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where she married Rex R. Taylor on February 24, 1945. Rex was in the Navy and she stayed with him until he was sent overseas until he was discharged. They lived in McPherson, Salina, and Topeka where Rex died in 2003.
They had one son, David who died in 2008. She is survived by a daughter, Lorrie and her husband Gale of Clay Center, Kansas; four grandchildren, Josh Lloyd and his Tammy, Kelly Taylor and his wife Angie, Seth Lloyd and his wife Katie and Lindsey Taylor Wurtz and her husband Cory; and eight great-grandchildren.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2016 at the First Christian Church, 1880 SW Gage Boulevard, Topeka, Kansas 66604. Family will greet friends an hour prior to the service.
