Phyllis M. Furgason, 93, Topeka, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014.
Phyllis was born July 12, 1920 in Topeka, the daughter of Melvin and Eva (Davis) Sears. She was a lifelong resident of Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School.
Phyllis married Raymond "Bill" Furgason on July 23, 1939. He died on October 31, 1989. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be remembered for touching many lives with her special personality. She loved being a homemaker and was a talented seamstress.
She was a member of Town & Country Christian Church where she participated in Senior Saints and Crusaders Sunday School Class. She started the Circle of Love for church members to sew items for senior centers in Topeka. She was a 4-H Leader and volunteered at the Topeka Rescue Mission. She was active in the Indian Hills E.H.U. and held many offices. As a Shawnee County Extension Representative, she named Indian Hills Road.
Survivors include daughters, Linda (Art) Johnson, Nancy (Gene) Wheeler, all of Topeka; grandchildren, David Johnson, Douglas (Kendall) Johnson, Tracy (Matt) Johnson Schultheis, Stacy (Greg) Steinlage, Kelly (Chad) Verge; and great-grandchildren, Emily Verge, Mitchell Johnson, Brady Steinlage, Will Johnson, Connor Verge, Jack Steinlage, and Wren Ava Schultheis. She was also preceded in death by sister, Lorraine Escola; and brother, Gene Sears.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Town & Country Christian Church. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Phyllis will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, after 3:00 p.m. on Friday and visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
