Phyllis James

Phyllis James, 75, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, February 26 at Midland Hospice House.

She was born June 21, 1929 in Ellsworth, the daughter of Daniel Cowie and Louise Hopp.

She graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University. She went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone, retiring after thirty five years. She was active in quilting, antiques and gardening. She was extremely devoted to her children and grandchildren. She was an active deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

She married Ford S. Acker 1949 in Topeka. They were divorced. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Acker.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen Hall and her husband Michael, Independence, MO; a son Stephen Acker and his wife Raye Ellen of Topeka, a daughter, Kelley McIntosh and her husband Dylan of Topeka and three grandchildren, a sister, Ruthie Dixson of New Mexico, and a brother, Tom Hopp of Highland, KS.

Mrs. James will lie in state after 1:00 pm, Tuesday, March 1 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.

A funeral service will be held at 9:00 am Wednesday, March 2 at the funeral home. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
