Phyllis J. Fatseas, 79, Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at a local hospital.
Phyllis was born January 6, 1932 in Clay Center, the daughter of Oscar and Edith (Moden) Wiberg. She was the first baby born in Clay Center in 1932. She graduated from Clay Center High School and Clarks School of Business in Topeka.
She was employed as an Executive Secretary with Kansas Mutual Insurance Company in Topeka, retiring in 1997.
Her lifelong passion was University of Kansas athletics, especially basketball. Her daughter was a 1986 graduate of KU.
Phyllis married Eugene J. Fatseas in 1952. They later divorced. Survivors include son, Mark Fatseas and wife, Virginia, Kansas City, MO; daughter, Barbara Zlatnik and husband, Craig, Houston, TX; grandchildren, Ashley Thill, Megan Fatseas, Kara Fatseas, Cody Zlatnik; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Ione Frank, Topeka. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband; sister, Lavone; and brother, Stanley. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Phyllis will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
