It is with deep sorrow, yet with gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Philip L Tysinger, on April 8, 2025, at the age of 77. He was surrounded by loved ones in Topeka, KS. He can now rest in heavenly peace.
He was born on January 31, 1948 to Elmo and Gladys (Copley) Tysinger in Durham, NC. He grew up with his older brother, Ron on East Club Blvd. Phil’s teenage years instilled a love for Motown music that would carry through his entire life. Phil went on to Campbell College and later Washburn University while also serving in the Air Force at Forbes Field in Topeka.
Phil found his professional calling in sales, where he excelled for over 40 years. Upon graduation from Washburn University with a degree in Business Administration, Phil was one of the founding employees of KTPK Radio in 1974 and worked there throughout his career from Sales Manager to General Manager. In the late 80’s, Phil love of cars led him to work at a dealership, Ed Bozarth. Later in life he worked at Dynamic Computers where he brought enthusiasm and dedication to every role. His colleagues will remember him as a mentor and respected leader, always willing to help.
Phil’s greatest joy in life came from his family. He married Linda I Tysinger on August 8, 1970. A chance meeting in 1968 started their love story that spanned over five decades. His love for Linda was unwavering, with lasting affection. He was an incredibly devoted father and papa to his daughter, Erin, and grandson, Oliver. He was their biggest supporter, a constant source of encouragement. It was also a proud day, when he walked his daughter down the aisle to marry Zach Snethen.
In his free time, he could be found joking around with his buddies on the golf course or serving wholeheartedly for many organizations throughout the Topeka community such as Sales & Marketing Executives, Topeka Chamber of Commerce and South Topeka Rotary, or volunteering time to organizations like Let’s Help and Junior Achievement.
Phil is survived by his loving wife; Linda, daughter; Erin N. Snethen (Zach), grandson; Oliver, brother; Ron (Delbra) of Pfafftown, NC, nephew; Jon of Atlantic Beach, NC, nephew; David (Dinah), great-niece; Alexis of Severna Park, Maryland, aunt; Hazel Cooper of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father; Elmo Lindsey Tysinger, mother; Gladys Virginia Copley Tysinger Barringer, grandparents; Caleb and Viola Copley, grandparents; Charles and Minnie Tysinger.
