Philip Schmidt

Philip Lee Schmidt, 85, Topeka, died at Brewster Place Health Care Center on Friday, February 17, 2006.

He was born January 11, 1922 in Iola, the son of Louis J. and Marie Hawkins Schmidt. He was the youngest of a family of seven boys and one girl.

Phil served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946.

He was the owner of Midwest Vending Company in Topeka.

He married Lorna Fulkerson on November 4, 1944 in Amarillo, TX. She died July 2, 1999. Survivors include a brother, Warren L. Schmidt and wife Betty, Lee's Summit, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; one nephew, Donald Van Dam, Topeka, his Assistant Manager for 20 years until his retirement.

A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at First Baptist Church. A Graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the LaHarpe Cemetery, LaHarpe. Mr. Schmidt will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Monday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
