Philip Marshall Preble, II, 72, was born on born January 19, 1951, in Coffeyville, Kansas. He passed away on May 3, 2023 at Rose Villa in Topeka, Kansas.
His parents Philip Marshal and Ila Inez (Kirch) Preble preceded him in passing. He is survived by one brother, Jon Preble of Coffeyville, Kansas.
Phil suffered a severe concussion while in grade school that changed his personality. He was able to cope with his injury and graduated from high school in 1969. He participated in football and excelled in track. Phil set the javelin record which he held for over 50 years and still currently holds for 188' 2". After high school, he joined the United States Navy and was honorable discharged as a Disabled American Veteran. Phil's disability limited his emotional range.
Phil was not capable of being employed and he considered himself a man of adventure. Every spring and fall, Phil would hitchhike a over a 1,000 miles from Topeka to the Mexico border and would return once the Kansas Winters were over. He particularly enjoyed passing through Montgomery County. His old class mates would see him and give him a ride. They would often slip him an Andrew Jackson or two. Phil enjoyed being a natty dresser with his cowboy hat, vest and cowboy boots. He loved to talk about his high school days.
Phil will be laid to rest at the Leavenworth National Cemetery with military honors at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veteran Organization in care of the VFW Post# 1022 attn: Gary Goldsbetty, 1714 W 8th St, Coffeyville, KS 67337. His burial flag will be donated to a youth organization.
