Philip Robert Engelhardt, 78, of Ozawkie, Kansas died at his home on Thursday, March 10, 2022.
He was born March 25, 1943, in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of Rev. Milton P. and Catharine (Oates) Engelhardt. He graduated High School in Lanark, IL in 1960, as Valedictorian. He went on to Carthage College graduating in 1964 majoring in Organic Chemistry. He furthered his career at Vanderbilt University in Nashville where he obtained his PhD. in Chemistry.
Phil was strong in his faith. He was an active member at First Lutheran Church where he served on various committees and sang in the choir.
He worked at Texaco, Ashland Oil, Kansas Department of Agriculture, the Kansas Legislature as Administrative Support and taught as an Adjunct Professor in chemistry at Johnson County Community College.
Phil was also active in his community. He prepared taxes and was a member of the Jefferson Co. RWD #11 and RWD #7 from 2010 - 2022.
Phil married LaVerne Johnson on June 12, 1965, she survives. Other survivors include sons, Christopher (Leslie) of Aurora, IL and Michael (Brenda) of Chesterfield, MO; four grandchildren, Carly Engelhardt, Andrew Engelhardt, Julia Engelhardt and Elsa Engelhardt; brother, John (Janell) Engelhardt and five nieces and nephews, Christina Lunka, Cathy Hatch, Eric Dahlquist, Jennifer Schoenfeldt, and B.J. Engelhardt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kay Dahlquist.
A Memorial Service will be 11:30 a.m., Monday, March 14, 2022, at First Lutheran Church, 1234 SW Fairlawn Road, Topeka. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation will follow the services.
