Peggy L. Houchins, 81, of Topeka, passed away January 12, 2009.
Peggy was born February 26, 1927 in Upland, KS to Roland and Esther (Gfeller) Hill. She was a graduate of Chapman High School. Peggy retired as an office manager from Auburn-Washburn School District after 34 years of service. She was an accomplished bowler and she enjoyed dancing. Peggy attended Lowman Hill United Methodist Church in Topeka.
Peggy is survived by her two children, Ronald (Debi) Kleiner of Topeka and Ranee (Gaylen) Goettsch of Washta, IA, 8 grandchildren, Keri Davey, Matt Kleiner, Ryan Kleiner, Andy Kleiner, Eric Goettsch, Todd Goettsch, Marshall Goettsch, and, Danielle Goettsch, 19 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Betty Kleiner of Manhattan, KS and Jo (Don) Kready of Topeka, a brother, Howard (Ada) Warnock of Junction City, and a brother-in-law, Larry Houchins of Des Moines, IA. Peggy is preceded in death by her first husband, Dale Kleiner, her second husband, Leland Houchins, and two brothers, Jimmy and Bob Hill.
Mrs. Houchins will lie in state after 3:00 pm on Friday, January 16th, with visitation to be held from 7:00-9:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Mid-town Chapel in Topeka. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 17th, 11:00 am at the funeral home. Pastor Wayne Newson will be officiating. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery on 6th and Gage in Topeka. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local Alzheimer's foundation or to Midland Hospice.
