Peggy J. Shinn

Peggy Joan Shinn, 84, Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Lexington Park.
Peggy was born October 2, 1926 in Sedan, the daughter of David June and Dola Jane (McCann) Shinn. She graduated from Elgin High School and received a degree in Business Administration from the University of Kansas in 1950.
She was a Personnel Administrator for the State of Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, Personnel Division, for 38 years, retiring in 1989.
As her many friends can attest, Peggy was a devoted cat and jazz lover and avid traveler. She was a lifelong member and supporter of the Topeka Jazz Festival and the Cat Association of Topeka. Peggy was a proud graduate of KU and remained an avid supporter and fan of all things KU her entire life. Her travels to Russia, China and Europe were highlights of her busy life. She was loved by many for her unique sense of humor, clever poetry and loyal, thoughtful friendships. In the last two years of her life Peggy received much loving care and friendship from the staff at Lexington Park. The family is most grateful that her last days were full of happiness and new friends.
Survivors include a nephew, David Shinn, Detroit, MI; and sister-in-law, Karen Shinn, Garrattsville, NY. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Shinn.
Miss Shinn was cremated and no services are scheduled. Private family inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan
