Paula Downey, 67, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018.
She was born December 23, 1950, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Ella (Mootrey) Downey. She graduated from Highland Park High School.
Paula was employed by the State of Kansas for 18 years.
She was an active member of the Fellowship Bible Church where she volunteered in various capacities. She was a 15 year volunteer at Stormont-Vail Hospital, served with Project Topeka and did various volunteer projects through her employment at the state.
Survivors include her children, Melissa (Dustin) Matzek and Benjamin (Jessica) Perry; siblings, Pam Hoyt, Ward Downey and Steve Downey and three granddaughters, Abra & Callie Matzek and Amaya Perry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, James and Fred Downey and brother-in-law, Bill Hoyt.
Paula loved spending time with her family and enjoyed genealogy, cross-stitching and volunteering in her community.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2018 at Fellowship Bible Church, 6800 SW 10th Street, Topeka, followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Private inurnment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
