Paul Arthur Manning lived a full, happy life and passed at 90 years old on December 10, 2018.
Paul Arthur Manning was born in Carbondale KS to John Paul and Laura Manning on July 26, 1928. Paul was the oldest of nine children. Paul postponed his high school career to take care of the family while his father shipped off to fight in WWII. Paul returned to high school to graduate from Lyndon High School in 1948.
Paul enlisted in the Army in 1951 and fought in the Korean War until 1953. He was awarded a Bronze Star with Valor designation for crossing enemy lines to retrieve a General's jeep.
When Paul returned to Topeka from the war he met and married Shirley May Wallingford on March 26, 1953. Paul and Shirley have one daughter, Pam. Pam's spouse is Mark Paine. Paul and Shirley's step-grandchildren are Luke and Nicole Paine. Paul and Shirley have one great-grandchild, Henry.
Paul attended vocational school in Topeka and earned an Associates Degree in engineering. Paul worked as a television repairman for Ed Marlings, then worked for the VA Hospital as a maintenance engineer for 30 years. Paul retired from the VA Hospital in 1989.
Paul and Shirley loved to travel and took many trips, especially after retirement. Paul especially loved to work in his yard and garden and sit on his patio to enjoy the fruits of his labor.
Paul and Shirley are long time members of Lowman United Methodist Church and the National Association of Federal Retired employees.
The family will greet friends during a visitation at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel, 17th & Fairlawn. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
