Patsy Ruth (Gardner) Voth died April 11, 2013 peacefully at home with one of her loyal dogs at her side.
Patsy was born February 15, 1927 in Kansas City, MO. She had three brothers and two sisters who all preceded her in death. After the death of her father at a very early age, she grew up in a harsh, stark, depression-era environment in Kansas City. At age 19, she married a young medical student Harold Voth in 1946. They ultimately resided in Topeka in the early 1950's where Dr. Voth finished training, practiced psychiatry for 50 years, and then died in 2003.
She raised three sons here in Topeka: Eric (Topeka), Greg (Chicago), and Nicholas (Larkspur CO). Pat also had seven grandchildren: Ryan, Riley, Hunter, Michael, Carolyn, Margaret, and Alyssa. She was very proud and supportive of all of her family in their individual pursuits and accomplishments.
Pat loved Colorado and animals. She had many enjoyable trips with her family to the mountains, and loved to transport endless loads of items back and forth to the family cabin in Colorado. This became known by the family as the "steady state." She also adopted numerous stray dogs through the years, and at one time owned five. They were her extended family. Even at her death, one of her loyal dogs stayed at her side and would not leave her as she was removed to the mortuary. She loved the dozens of birds and squirrels that she fed and befriended.
A visitation will be held at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka on Thursday April 25, from 7-8pm. Graveside services will be held at Mt. Cavalry Cemetery, Topeka on Friday April 26, at 10:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be sent to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St., Topeka, KS 66604.
