Patrick John Walsh, 66, of Topeka, formerly of Chanute, passed away Monday, October 19, 2009 at the Countryside Health Center in Topeka.
Patrick was born on May 23, 1943 to Ray and Helen Walsh in Chanute, Kansas. He joined the Air Force as a teenager and upon his discharge from the military he returned to Chanute and completed his GED. In 1964 he married Sharon (Steeves). They had three children and were later divorced in 1984. Patrick lived in Iola, KS and co-owned and operated the 7-Eleven convenience store with Sharon for several years. He then moved to Topeka, where he was employed as a car salesman. He had been in deteriorating health for many years prior to his death.
Patrick is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Stacey Walsh and Bill Lewington, of Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada; his son Brian Walsh, of Blair, Nebraska; grandchildren, Kyle and Erin Lewington; brothers, Conrad Joe Walsh, Aurora, Colorado and Michael Walsh, Chanute, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Thomas Walsh.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m., Friday, October 23, 2009 at the St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chanute, KS. Mr. Walsh will lie in state after 3 p.m., Thursday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the "Memorial Fund for Patrick J. Walsh" for the education of his grandchildren, 119 E.
