Patricia "Pat" McCarthy, 77, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at KU Medical Center.

She was born March 19, 1944, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the daughter of Hollis and Viola (Owens) King. She graduated from Beaumont High School in Missouri.

She met the love of her life, Louis in St. Louis as a teenager. They were married on July 20, 1963 in St. Louis. To this union they had three children, Sherry, Tracy and Timothy. They moved to Topeka in the early '80s.

Pat loved to travel and read. She had a strong passion to help others; always volunteering. She volunteered at the Topeka Rescue Mission, Hope Church with food distribution and crocheted hats for infants at the hospital.

She was employed with Jostens from the early '80s until they closed doors in 2012. She became good friends with many of her co-workers.

Pat enjoyed playing bunco once a month, watching auto races, watching golf, the St. Louis Cardinals and was an avid collector of all things Precious Moments.

She was an active member at First Southern Baptist Church, of Topeka.

Above all else she had a strong love for her family. She attended all of her grandchildren's activities, (academic and sporting events); near and far. She was her grandchildren's biggest fan.

Survivors include her loving husband, Louis T. McCarthy. Children, Sherry (Steve) Burton; Tracy (Jason) Glann; and Timothy (Regina) McCarthy. Grandchildren, Tara Burton; Samantha Burton; Ashley (James) Barrett; Lyssa (Gean) Sanchez; Tyler (Peyton) Burton; Matthew Glann; Kelli Burton; Ryleigh McCarthy; and Gabriella McCarthy. Nine great-grandchildren. Sister in law Beverly Owens. Life-long friends Kelly Bartholomay; Deloris Richards; Memorie Harrell; Jennifer Lane; and their families along with numerous nieces; nephews and other close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lonnie Owens; and a nephew, Michael Owens.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Penwell-Gabel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.

Memorial Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Penwell-Gabel. Burial will take place at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
