Patricia L. Stinson passed away at Stormont Vail Hospital on November 18, 2009, following a short illness. She was born on May 26, 1924, in Winfield, Kansas, to Hazel and Ralph Young, but spent most of her life in Topeka.
Patricia received both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education from Washburn University and was a proud member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. During her career, she was an elementary school teacher, editor of the "Kansas Too" magazine, co-owner of a women's clothing boutique, author of a children's textbook about Kansas, a professional photographer, and a public speaker.
She served tirelessly as a volunteer at Brewster Place and served on many non-profit boards, including the League of Women Voters, Mulvane Art Center, Family Service and Guidance, and the Kansas Parkinson's Association.
In 1944, Patricia married Harry C. Snyder, Jr. of Kingman, Kansas. Harry was a noted local attorney and Chairman of the Kansas Corporation Commission at the time of his death in 1958. She and Dr. Lloyd K. Stinson, a Topeka dentist, were married from 1962 until his death in 2003.
She is survived by her children: Pam Crary of Tucson, Arizona; Harry Kirke Snyder of Englewood, Colorado; Ken Stinson of Acworth, Georgia; Sally Norwood of Carbondale, Colorado; and Doug Stinson of Washington, D.C., 9 grandchildren; as well as 2 great-grandchildren. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert Young; and her sister, Jeannie Young Wills. She is also survived by her companion, Dr. Donald Jackson.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the First Congregational Church, 1701 SW Collins Ave, Topeka, KS 66604, the Topeka Public Library, 1515 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66604 or the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd, Topeka, KS 66604. Details concerning a memorial service will be announced at a later time. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is handling arrangements.
