Patricia L. Baker, 74, of Topeka, passed away, Monday, February 20, 2006 at Midland Hospice Care in Topeka.
She was born December 12, 1931 in Topeka the daughter of Allen E. and Cleta K. (Guthrie) Ecord.
Mrs. Baker graduated from Topeka High School in 1949. She attended Kansas University, Kansas State University and graduated from Washburn University in 1983.
Mrs. Baker was a member of Topeka Round-Up Club, Horseback Square Dance Team, Milford Lake Walleye Club and Topeka Retired Teachers Association. She had life guarded at Children's Park and other Topeka pools for several years.
Mrs. Baker had worked as a cook at Wanamaker Elementary School and as manager of Animal Farm Pet Store. She later served as a Chapter 1 Reading and Math Teacher at Quinton Heights Elementary School and a classroom teacher at State Street Elementary School.
She married Jerry S. Baker January 27, 1951 who survives. Other survivors include her son, Charles Baker and his wife Kristi, Osawatomie, KS; her daughter Becky Hatesohl and her husband Gary, Greenleaf, KS; her brother, Elwood Ecord and his wife Pat, Cassoday, KS; her sisters, Aleta Biggs and her husband Don, Kansas City, MO; Mickey Barrett and her husband Jack, Mansfield, TX; her grandchildren, Barbara McCall and her husband J.D., Elizabeth Baker, Adam Hatesohl, Kelsey Hatesohl and her great-grand son Joshua McCall.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2006 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Baker will lie in state after 12:00 noon Friday at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. that evening.
