Pamela Lou (Wohlgemuth) Blaylock, age 68, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving husband Robert Blaylock and family on June 3rd, 2017. Pam was born February 15, 1949, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Ralph Elmer Wohlgemuth and Peggy Aileen (Martin) Wohlgemuth.
Growing up, Pam enjoyed school, was active in Girl Scouts, played tennis, and enjoyed water skiing. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1967, and then proceeded to Washburn University, where she was very involved in her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, graduating in 1971. While in college, Pam married the love of her life, Robert Alan Blaylock, on June 8, 1969.
Coinciding with her careful attention to the upbringing of their three children, Pam's professional career spanned more than 30 years as an accomplished grade school and middle school teacher, as well as a daycare director. Pam not only was a tremendous teacher, she cared immensely about the students she taught, as if they were her own children, and they loved her as well.
She received her master's degree in education from Washburn University in 1999.
In addition to her career, Pam was actively involved at church with activities such as teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, participating in theater, attending and leading Ladies Fellowship, and going on mission trips.
Pam is survived by the love of her life and husband of 48 years, Robert Alan Blaylock of Topeka, KS; brothers, Larry Wohlgemuth of Des Moines, IA, and Richard Wohlgemuth, along with his wife Linda of Tecumseh, KS; dear in-laws, all residing in Topeka, KS, Barbara and Jerry Brosius, Linda and Steve Wieser, Star and Brad Caywood, and Cindy and Dennis Gonzales; children, Sherri Swart and her husband Peter of Topeka, KS, Renee Wilson and her husband Josh of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Derek Blaylock and his wife Tracy of Olathe, KS. She dearly loved her 5 grandchildren, by whom she was affectionately known as "Mimi:" Micaiah Wilson, Allysandra Swart, Zorina Swart, Greer Blaylock, and Henry Blaylock. She was the loving aunt of 19 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother, Michael Wohlgemuth.
Pam was a great friend to so many, as she seemingly made a new friend everywhere she went.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Grace Point Church, 5400 SW Huntoon Street, Topeka, KS 66604. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66604.
